3 Things That You Should Do When Hiring A Janitorial Service

Whether your business is small or large, there is a good chance that you could use some help with cleaning it. Hiring a janitorial service is obviously one of the best ways of doing so, but you shouldn’t jump in without putting a little bit of thought into it. Make sure that you do these three things when hiring one of these companies to ensure that things go as smoothly as possible.

1. Make Sure You Get a Written Contract

First of all, make sure that you and your janitorial service company have a contract that spells out your expectations, cost and more. Ensure that things like the cost of cleaning, the frequency of cleaning and other necessities are all written into the contract. Consider having it looked over by your business attorney to ensure that you know what you’re signing.

2. Ask for Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

It’s a good idea to ask that eco-friendly cleaning products be used in your office. Nowadays, it is important to operate your business in the most sustainable way possible. You also have to think about the possibility that you, your employees or your customers could be allergic to or harmed by overly harsh cleaning chemicals if they are used in your office. Luckily, most good janitorial service companies are more than happy to oblige. If the company that you are interested in hiring does not offer the cleaning supplies that you are interested in having used in your office, you can also volunteer to purchase them yourself in exchange for having the cost of cleaning reduced.

3. Create a Checklist

One good idea is to create a checklist of all of the things that you want cleaned in your office each day, week or month. Different people have different ideas of what is involved in office cleaning. Plus, your janitorial service company might not be sure if you have an outside party that takes care of certain parts of your building, such as your windows or your floors. By outlining what you expect, you can get a more accurate price quote, and you can also help ensure that all of your needs are met without any issues.

Hiring a janitorial service like Performance Plus can be a very smart decision if you want to keep your place of business as clean as possible. Luckily, ensuring that you do these three things during the hiring process can help make things go as smoothly as possible.

Knights In Shining Business Casual: Temp Agencies Protect You From Less-Than-Optimal Working Conditions

If you’ve ever been in the position of having to find a job fast, you know the pressure involved in trying to balance your need for speedy employment with the need to find a sane workplace. Many times you just have to guess that you’ll be able to handle whatever comes up during the workday. However, that can leave you in precarious circumstances where you could be taken advantage of by the company. One way to avoid this is to sign with reputable temporary staffing agencies. The managers at these agencies serve as a defensive line should your work conditions take a nosedive.

Contract Enforcers

If you’re working on a temporary assignment and are asked to do something that is outside the scope of the assignment — say you’re ordered to pick up lunch for everyone in the office, when you’re supposed to be doing data entry — you can have the temp agency intervene if you feel the request is out of line. If you like your co-workers and are fine with picking up a few salads for a few people, you certainly can, of course, even if the job description doesn’t require you to.

But if you find that the company is turning you into a second-class “gofer”  and not letting you do the work you’re supposed to be doing, or you’re getting heaped with verbal abuse for refusing to go outside your agreed duties, notify the temp agency immediately. When companies contract with temp agencies, they have to let the agencies know what the jobs they have entail, and your manager at the temp agency can protect you from abusive scope creep.

That’s not the same in non-temp jobs. If you sign on directly with a company (especially if your job description has the dreaded “and other duties as required” phrase), you don’t really have a team that can protect you if you find the management and co-workers there to be insufferable.

Resume Enhancers

There’s another advantage to signing with a temp agency. If you take permanent jobs that end up being bad, that can lead to you into a period of job-hopping that doesn’t look good on a resume. With temping, though, you’re employed by the temp agency. Your temp manager might pull you out of the abusive job and place you in another, but your resume would just read that you had steady employment with the temp agency.
